Environmental review required before any lease sale
BOEM intends to prepare a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (Programmatic EIS) for a representative California proposed lease sale and will supplement it for individual Central and Southern California lease sales; BOEM will complete environmental analyses and other statutory requirements and publish a Final Notice of Sale at least 30 days before any sale. The Programmatic EIS will evaluate human, marine, and coastal environmental effects and may propose mitigation measures.
You can nominate offshore blocks by Feb 26
Companies and members of the public can nominate whole or partial offshore blocks in the Central California Call Area and submit comments by February 26, 2026. Proprietary nominations must be mailed to the Regional Supervisor, BOEM, Office of Strategic Resources, 760 Paseo Camarillo (CM 102), Camarillo, CA 93010; public comments may also be submitted via Regulations.gov (docket BOEM-2025-0583).

BOEM will make public comments, including names and addresses, available for public inspection unless the submitter properly identifies proprietary or privacy-protected portions and requests withholding under FOIA. To request withholding of personally identifiable information, you must include a cover letter explaining why disclosure would cause harm.
