Paperwork Required to Access BJS Data

If you are approved to access Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) restricted data, you must submit multiple security documents outside the SAP Portal: a restricted data use agreement, a Privacy Certificate (per 28 CFR part 22), a data security plan (specifying physical enclave, virtual enclave, or secure download), a confidentiality pledge, Institutional Review Board (IRB) documentation (per 28 CFR part 46), and certification of completing required training.

Estimated Time Burden for Applicants

The Bureau of Justice Statistics estimates the average time to complete and submit its data security agreements and related paperwork is 3 hours (180 minutes) per applicant. BJS expects to collect this security information for about 55 approved applications per year, totaling 495 hours over the three-year OMB clearance and averaging 165 hours per year.
