FAA to Mark 30 STCs Abandoned

The FAA intends to designate 30 specific New Systems Supplemental Type Certificates (STC Nos. SA01656AT, SA09171AC, SA09173AC, SA09176AC, SA09242AC, SA09248AC, SA09317SC, SA09320SC, SA8012SW, SA8074SW, SA8077SW, SA8139SW, SA8590SW, SA8656SW, SA8658SW, SA8694SW, SA8708SW, SA8831SW, SA8983SW, SA8984SW, ST09116AC, ST09143SC, ST09156SC, ST09243AC, ST09260SC, ST09318SC, ST09344SC, ST09345SC, ST09384SC, and ST09566SC) as abandoned if it receives no response by August 17, 2026. If designated abandoned, the FAA will proceed to release the related engineering data to requesters under 49 U.S.C. 44704(a)(5).

Engineering Data Will Be Released for Safety

The FAA received a third-party FOIA request and, having been unable to contact New Systems, will make the engineering data for the listed STCs available on request if the STCs are designated abandoned; the FAA says this action is intended to maintain airworthiness and enhance aviation safety.

Owners Must Prove Ownership to Stop Release

If you claim to be the owner, heir, or transferee of any of the listed STCs, you must contact the FAA and provide a notarized copy of government-issued ID plus a letter and background establishing ownership or heir relationship to assert your claim.
