2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

DoD shares records with Education for student aid

The DoD is expanding data sharing with the Department of Education to support a new computer matching program. This will help identify dependent children of service members who died in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001, and identify service members or DoD civilians for student-loan benefits such as military loan deferment (20 U.S.C. 1087a) and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (20 U.S.C. 1087e). The routine uses enabling this sharing are effective at the close of the public comment period on April 2, 2026.

DoD uses records to detect fraud and collect debts

The updated system is used to identify current and former DoD civilians and Armed Forces personnel to detect fraud and abuse of pay and benefit programs and to facilitate collection of debts owed to the U.S. Government and to state and local governments. The SORN is effective upon publication (March 3, 2026).
