2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Voluntary report takes ~30 minutes

If you are a mechanic, type-club member, aircraft owner, or operator, you may be asked to provide voluntary information to the FAA under OMB Control Number 2120-0731. The FAA estimates each response takes about 30 minutes and the total annual burden is 225 hours. Written comments on renewing this collection are due April 3, 2026.

Voluntary reports support safety checks

If you submit information via a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) or Airworthiness Concern Sheet (ACS), the FAA will use it to investigate a specific safety condition and to determine whether the condition is likely to exist or develop on other aircraft, engines, propellers, or appliances of the same type design. SAIBs and ACSs are non-regulatory, non-mandatory documents that may include recommended actions or inspections.
