Members Serve Unpaid and Pay Expenses

TEPAC members serve without compensation or reimbursement and must pay all expenses they incur to attend meetings or participate. The committee term runs through September 30, 2027, and the committee may include up to 35 members.

Eligibility Limits for Applicants

To be eligible to apply, you must be a U.S. citizen, not be a full-time employee of a U.S. governmental agency, not be registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and, if serving in an individual capacity, not be a federally registered lobbyist. You must also be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance or complete a background investigation and a non-disclosure agreement.

U.S. Organization Sponsorship Tests

Representative members must represent a U.S. organization that meets specific tests: more than 50% of the board and more than 50% of the membership must be U.S. citizens or U.S. organizations, and at least 50% of the organization's annual revenue must come from nongovernmental U.S. sources.

Individual Experts Face Ethics Filings

A limited number of TEPAC members may serve in an individual capacity as special government employees and, if so, are subject to conflict-of-interest rules and must complete a financial disclosure report.
