Directory Keeps Teacher Loan Help Available

You (as a teacher with federal student loans) can rely on the Teacher Cancellation Low Income Directory to help determine eligibility for loan cancellation or forgiveness. The Directory lists elementary and secondary schools and educational service agencies that serve more than 30 percent low-income students (Title I definition) so post-secondary institutions can check if you qualify for up to 100 percent cancellation or forgiveness of Perkins, FFEL, or Direct Loans.

States/Localities Keep Reporting Burden

State, local, and tribal governments will continue to respond to the Department's information collection for the Teacher Cancellation Low Income Directory. The Department estimates 57 annual responses and a total of 6,840 annual burden hours for these respondents.

Optional School Type Data Element Added

The Department is updating the collection to include an optional school type data element for the Directory. Providing this new school type field is optional for respondents and is intended to improve the Directory's data.
