FCC Seeks Input on Easing Telecom Reporting Burdens

Published Date: 3/27/2026

Notice

Summary

The FCC is checking in on some paperwork rules to make sure they’re useful and not too much work, especially for small businesses and local governments. They want your thoughts on how to improve the process and reduce hassle. If you have ideas, send them in by May 26, 2026—this helps keep things fair and smooth for everyone involved.

Licensees Must File Interference Reports

If you hold a license covered by 47 CFR 74.703, you must submit a Resumption of Operations notice in the FCC’s Licensing and Management System after resuming operation whenever suspension was required. Each report must describe the nature of the interference, the source of interfering signals, and remedial steps taken; the FCC estimates 50 responses at 2 hours per response (100 total annual hours) and a total annual cost of $100,000.

Information Collection Now Limited to 74.703(h)

The FCC revised OMB control number 3060-0236 so the information collection now covers only 47 CFR 74.703(h) after the removal of 47 CFR 74.703(f) and (g). The change follows the Commission’s October 25, 2021 and April 17, 2023 orders and means this OMB collection is focused solely on the Resumption of Operations reporting described in 74.703(h).
