Nonprofits lose tax-exempt status for abortions

If enacted, this bill would revoke federal tax-exempt status for any organization that provides or funds abortions. Donations to those groups would not be treated as tax-deductible under section 170(c). The bill defines "abortion" to include use or prescription of instruments, medicines, drugs, or devices to intentionally end a known pregnancy. It carves out narrow post-viability exceptions for procedures to produce a live birth or to remove a dead unborn child. The revocation would not apply if the abortion is necessary to save the mother's life or if the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest. It would apply to taxable years beginning after the date of enactment.
