HR933119th CongressWALLET

Defending Domestic Orange Juice Production Act of 2025

Sponsored By: Representative Franklin, Scott

Introduced

Summary

Would set a national floor that finished pasteurized orange juice must contain at least 10.0% orange juice soluble solids by weight, calculated without counting solids from any added optional sweeteners. It ties that requirement to the federal definition of "pasteurized orange juice" in 21 CFR 146.140 or any successor regulation and preserves the Secretary of Health and Human Services' authority to amend the standard in the future.

Sets 10% solids floor for orange juice

The bill would set a 10.0% minimum for orange juice soluble solids in pasteurized orange juice. Solids from optional sweeteners would not count toward the 10.0%. This would apply to juice made or sold under the federal pasteurized orange juice standard. It would start on the date of enactment, and HHS could still change the rule later. If passed, this could make quality more uniform and could affect prices.
