More funding for Alaska special education services

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law raises the Special Education Service Agency’s annual funding rate from $23.13 to $26.89. Alaska’s education department must allocate at least $26.89 times the statewide average daily student count from the previous fiscal year. This funds agency services for students with disabilities, not payments to families. Funding depends on yearly legislative appropriations, and the allocation is reduced proportionally when available money falls short. The law also applies retroactively to July 1, 2026.
