Alaska ends dedicated derelict vessel fund
The law repeals Alaska's dedicated Derelict Vessel Prevention Program Fund and its related funding provisions. Subject to appropriation, the fund's remaining money transfers to Alaska's general fund. Vessel sale proceeds first pay impoundment administration, then towing, handling and storage, then sale administration, then liens. Any money left goes to the owner if the owner can be found. If the owner cannot be found, that money goes to Alaska's general fund instead of the dedicated fund.
Registration limits for commercial boats and barges
Commercial vessels qualify for this Alaska numbering and registration exemption only with both Coast Guard documentation and an Alaska license. The license must be issued under AS 16.05.490 or AS 16.05.530. Barges with valid numbering from another state's federally approved system qualify for up to 60 consecutive days in Alaska. Other boats with that numbering qualify for up to 90 consecutive days, as do foreign boats. The law also exempts government-owned boats, boats without mechanical power, and boats with valid foreign-government operating documents. Handmade, nonmotorized umiaqs covered with walrus or sealskin are also exempt.
