Beginning January 1, 2026, otherwise eligible Alaska residents can keep Permanent Fund Dividend eligibility during more absences. School and training breaks qualify, except summer breaks, with full-time attendance before and after. Required orientations qualify when full-time study or training starts immediately afterward. Merchant-marine training qualifies when Coast Guard-approved and providing sea service that meets Coast Guard credential requirements. Covered uniformed services include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Space Force, NOAA, and Public Health Service commissioned corps. The law also covers more family relationships for care of a terminally ill family member. These include relationships through marriage or guardianship, plus siblings, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and first cousins. Medical treatment allows up to 180 extra absence days, but this allowance cannot be combined with specified other absence exceptions.
Beginning January 1, 2026, Alaska's Revenue Department must send notice when a court order or writ seizes a dividend. The department must use the address in the person's dividend application. It may use email instead only with the person's verified consent to electronic notices under department rules.
Beginning January 1, 2026, Alaska agencies must obtain national criminal-history checks for employees being evaluated to administer dividends. This covers current and prospective employees and helps determine their qualifications and suitability. Agencies must send fingerprints and the required fee to the Department of Public Safety. That department forwards them to the FBI for the check. This requirement does not apply to dividend applicants or recipients.
