Stronger Alaska audits and obstruction penalties

Alaska officials, agencies, and employees must fully cooperate with the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee, its staff, and the Legislative Audit Division. This includes assembling, generating, and providing information in the requested form or format. People who intentionally withhold cooperation or pressure others to withhold it face criminal consequences; state employees also face discipline or dismissal. These penalties apply when the person lacks a reasonable belief that the conduct is legally justified. The law takes effect immediately, and the criminal provision covers offenses committed on or after that effective date.
