Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Court revenue reserved for Choctaw County jail

The court clerk collects the added court costs like other court costs and deposits them in the county treasury’s Jail Fund. The county can use this money only to maintain, repair, and operate the county jail and jail complex. It can also pay debt incurred to build those facilities. The July 1, 2025, start date applies only if the required local constitutional amendment was ratified before that date.

Higher court costs in Choctaw County

The law adds $50 per civil case in Choctaw County circuit and district courts, or $25 for small-claims cases. It also adds $50 per criminal or quasi-criminal case in the county’s circuit, district, and municipal courts. These charges are on top of existing court costs. Filings by the district attorney or probate judge are exempt. The July 1, 2025, start date applies only if the required local constitutional amendment was ratified before that date.
