Beginning October 1, 2025, Alabama’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program no longer requires doctors to volunteer at least 100 hours annually. Doctors must still be fully retired and meet existing license, health, disciplinary history, continuing education, and clinic work-agreement requirements. Their practice remains limited to outpatient care at qualifying free clinics or board-approved nonprofit groups or facilities in Alabama. These sites serve patients unable to pay. The program’s certificate remains free.
