Russell County probate fees up to $10

Beginning October 1, 2025, Russell County's probate fee starts at $5 per recorded document or marriage license issued. The county commission can set the fee by resolution, up to $10. Payment is required before recording or license issuance, on top of other charges. The law removes the two-year limit and renewal-vote requirement. The probate judge manages the money in a local bank or financial institution account to modernize office records and recordkeeping. Only money the judge declares beyond those needs can offset county general fund spending on probate office operations. The judge controls spending, and the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts audits the fees.
