The law takes effect June 1, 2025, but the fee requires voter approval at the first primary election in 2026. A majority voting in the Pickens County referendum must approve; otherwise, the act has no further effect. With approval, the County Commission can add $10 to each new vehicle registration, transfer, renewal, or replacement tag. This fee is on top of existing fees, taxes, and charges. The judge of probate runs the referendum, collects the fee, and sends proceeds monthly to the county general fund. That money must be used only for ambulance service within Pickens County.
