Monroe County keeps tax for local services

Beginning June 1, 2025, Monroe County’s special privilege license tax continues, including after jail construction debt is fully paid. Businesses subject to the tax keep paying; the law does not change its rate. Once all county or public-corporation debt for the new jail and related facilities is retired, net proceeds enter the county general fund. This includes paying off any debt used to refinance those obligations. The money must fund maintenance, operation, or renovation of the Monroe County Detention Facility, or support county ambulance service or E911.
