Beginning October 1, 2025, an expense allowance raises the Colbert County sheriff’s total annual pay from $50,000 to $96,000. On January 18, 2027, $96,000 becomes base salary, replacing prior salary, allowances, and fees paid as compensation. Beginning October 1, 2025, the sheriff also gets all uniform county employee pay increases, based on total compensation. These increases are paid as expense allowances during the term and become salary when the next term starts. Once converted, those allowances end as separate payments. All expense allowances under this law count as salary for retirement purposes. Pay comes from the county general fund in equal installments.
