More retirement options for Alabama district attorneys

Beginning July 1, 2025, qualifying district attorneys can join both the supernumerary district attorney program and the Employees’ Retirement System. They must qualify for each program using separate years of service. After leaving state service, qualifying district attorneys can receive both supernumerary salary and a Retirement Systems of Alabama pension. Separate service years must support each payment; the same years cannot count toward both. They must file a written declaration with the Governor and the applicable retirement system when leaving state service.
