The Alabama Board can no longer issue limited chiropractic licenses. Final-year students and recent graduates retain a supervised training route through the preceptorship and extern program. Their college must be Board-approved and accredited by the Council of Chiropractic Education. An Alabama-licensed sponsor must supervise directly, be present on-site, and supervise only one trainee at a time. Program trainees cannot use “chiropractic,” “D.C.,” or other titles that suggest they practice chiropractic.
Candidates for Alabama’s State Board of Chiropractic Examiners no longer need to be U.S. citizens. They must live in Alabama and have lived there for at least five years. Other candidate qualifications remain in place.
Chiropractic licensees and primary permit holders must show proof of approved continuing education hours to renew. Board rules now set the hours, replacing the legal minimum of 18 hours during the prior year. The Board can waive the requirement for good and reasonable cause. Required time and costs depend on those rules and any waiver.
Qualifying chiropractic degree students and Board-approved postgraduate trainees can complete required clinical training without a full license. They must use a student title and work under a licensed chiropractor. Licensed professors and instructors can provide educational chiropractic activities. People enrolled in or teaching qualifying clinical-skills courses can participate under a Board-approved licensed chiropractor within school-sponsored or Board-approved programs. Course activities must stay within the educational setting; participants cannot provide or supervise fee-for-service chiropractic care without a license.
