Alabama creates quantum computing task force
The law creates the Alabama Quantum Evaluation Task Force with state, legislative, business, and college representatives. Appointments must reflect the state's racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity, including at least one small-business owner. The group studies quantum computing's economic effects, finds public-private research opportunities, and develops and administers a 10-year state plan. Its first meeting is required within 30 days after passage, with at least three meetings before its report. Findings and recommendations go to designated state and legislative leaders by the fifth legislative day of the 2026 Regular Session. The task force dissolves when it submits that report. State agencies provide staff and meeting space; meeting notices, membership names, reports, and other documents go to the Secretary of State. Legislative members receive legislative pay, daily allowances, and travel expenses for meeting days. Other members are unpaid but may receive necessary meeting-expense reimbursements under their appointing authority's policies. The law specifies no payment amounts, funding amount, or direct household benefit.
