Higher pay for Mobile County probate judge

Beginning June 1, 2025, the Mobile County probate judge gets a $49,000 yearly expense allowance. It is paid in equal monthly amounts from the county general fund. Apart from the countywide raises described below, base salary stays at its February 1, 2025 level through January 19, 2031. On January 20, 2031, the allowance ends and base salary increases by $49,000 a year. Beginning June 1, 2025, the judge also gets all uniform county employee pay increases, based on the judge’s total pay. Raises granted during a term are paid as expense allowances until the next term begins. They then become salary, and those allowances end. All expense allowances under this law count as salary for retirement purposes. The law also repeals the judge’s prior pay law, Act 443 of 1967.
