Beginning June 1, 2025, Madison County’s sitting sheriff gets $170,000 yearly, up from $154,086.40. This special treatment ends when that sheriff leaves office. Newly elected sheriffs start at $170,000; sheriffs returning after a break also restart at that amount. After a full four-year term, each re-election to the next term brings a 7.5% raise on the current salary. The sitting sheriff’s second successive term pays $182,750 yearly. Starting salaries and term-based raises begin with the first full pay period after the term starts. Terms begin the first Monday after January’s second Tuesday following election. The sheriff gets regular county commission employee benefits. The law removes earlier non-salary payment restrictions but bars cost-of-living raises and extra pay beyond the stated schedule. Madison County funds the increases through its existing Sheriff’s Office budget; the law creates no new taxes.
