For July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, the law provides $2.25 million for Claims Commission awards. This money covers eligible surviving spouses and dependent children of workers killed in the line of duty. Covered workers include police officers, firefighters, correctional officers, and other state employees specified by existing law. The same funding also covers small disputed and undisputed claims decided by the commission. The law does not set individual award amounts or change who qualifies.
For July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, the law provides $763,699 for Claims Commission operations. This includes $479,067 for salaries, $189,242 for related personnel costs, and $95,390 for operating expenses. It provides no funding for conferences and travel, professional fees, capital purchases, or data processing. The law authorizes 10 regular employees: one director, one attorney, five commissioners, one administrative analyst, and two administrative specialists. Their job grades are SPC08, SPC05, SGS09, SGS05, and SGS02, respectively. Another $8,000 covers Firefighter Benefit Review Panel expense reimbursements, without setting individual reimbursement amounts. Both operating and panel funding come from the State Central Services Fund. Spending under the act must stay within authorized amounts and follow state purchasing, accounting, budgeting, revenue, salary, and related fiscal rules. The legislature also directs spending to follow the purposes stated in agency requests and executive and legislative budget recommendations.
