Arkansas funds Social Security disability decisions

The law provides about $77.85 million for Arkansas’s Social Security disability decision work from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. The money comes from federal funds designated by the state’s Chief Fiscal Officer. It covers salaries, overtime, staff benefits, temporary help, and operating costs. The agency can have up to 594 regular employees and 20 temporary or part-time workers, whose pay must follow state limits. The director can add up to 250 federally funded full-time positions during that year with Office of Personnel Management approval. Those positions also require prior review by the Arkansas Legislative Council or Joint Budget Committee and inclusion in the agency’s budget request. Spending cannot exceed the appropriation or available funds and must follow state fiscal controls and the approved budget purposes. The law does not change household benefit amounts or eligibility rules.
