Arkansas keeps funding heritage preservation

Beginning July 1, 2026, Arkansas renews the Division of Heritage’s authority to use unused balances from earlier funding approvals. Up to $10 million comes from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Grant and Trust Fund. This money supports buying, managing, caring for, or preserving state-owned lands, historic sites, buildings, structures, or objects. Another $750,000 cap covers special maintenance, paid from the Arkansas Division of Heritage Special Fund Account. Both amounts are limited to the unused balances available. The division can add grants, donations, federal funds, and other cash or funds not already committed to another use. It cannot commit more money than is available or use its Maintenance and General Operations funding for these projects. Spending must follow state purchasing and fiscal rules, unless another law provides otherwise, and the purposes documented in state budget materials. This law does not provide direct payments to households.
