Funding for Arkansas juvenile resentencing cases

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Arkansas Public Defender Commission can reuse up to $167,641 for juvenile resentencing expenses. This is leftover funding authorized by Act 75 of 2025, payable from the Development and Enhancement Fund. It supports cases involving people sentenced as juveniles to mandatory life in prison without parole, not direct household payments. Contracts and obligations cannot exceed available Treasury funds, but grants, donations, federal funds, and other available money can supplement them. Agencies cannot use their maintenance and general operations funding for this work. Spending must follow applicable purchasing, budgeting, and fiscal rules and the purpose documented in the act’s legislative and budget records.
