Arkansas renews education building upkeep funding

Beginning July 1, 2026, Arkansas renews up to $5 million in leftover funding for four education department buildings. These Capitol Complex buildings receive funding from the Educational Buildings Maintenance Fund. Covered costs include grounds upkeep, equipment maintenance contracts, insurance, cleaning, major maintenance, renovations, improvements, repairs, and building operations. The amount is limited to the remaining balance approved in 2025. For both funding items, contracts and obligations cannot exceed money actually available in the State Treasury. Agencies can supplement treasury funds with grants, donations, federal funds, and cash or other funds not already committed. Neither appropriation can fund the budget category called Maintenance and General Operations. Spending must follow applicable purchasing and fiscal-control laws and the purposes documented in the act’s budget materials.

Arkansas keeps computer science funding available

Beginning July 1, 2026, Arkansas renews authority to spend leftover funds for computer science initiatives. The Department of Education’s Division of Elementary and Secondary Education can use up to $564,871. The money comes from the Development and Enhancement Fund and is limited to the remaining balance approved in 2025. This continues program funding rather than providing direct household payments.
