Stronger rules for Colorado Medicaid claims

Other payers doing business in Colorado must answer state Medicaid claim inquiries within 60 days after receiving them. They must pay the claim or send a written denial, for claims submitted within three years after care was provided. Payers cannot reject state-submitted claims solely for the filing date, claim form type or format, or missing point-of-sale documents. This protection applies when the state starts an enforcement action within six years after submitting the claim. Payers must also treat Colorado’s Medicaid agency’s payment as proof that the provider or member obtained the payer’s prior approval.
