Peer support authorized for Colorado parolees

Colorado’s Department of Corrections can add peer behavioral health support to reentry services for adults on parole. Peer support connects people with shared experiences of diagnosed behavioral health conditions, including substance use disorders. Services must come from credentialed peer support professionals or other research-based programs. Implementation depends on approved funding; the law does not guarantee individual access. The law sets its effective time at 12:01 a.m., the day after 90 days following the 2025 legislative session’s final adjournment. A referendum petition delays that start unless voters approve the law at the November 2026 general election. In that case, it takes effect when the governor officially declares the vote.
