Homeowners get payments for late policy copies

Colorado homeowners can request a certified copy of their insurance policy in writing through the insurer's registered agent. The insurer must make the copy available within 30 calendar days after that agent receives the request. If late, the insurer owes you $50 per day starting on day 31 until the copy is available. It also owes reasonable attorney fees and costs you incur enforcing this rule. These protections apply only to requests made on or after the law's effective date. That date is 12:01 a.m. on the day after the 90-day period following final legislative adjournment ends, subject to referendum. If a referendum is filed and voters approve the law in November 2026, it takes effect on the governor's official declaration date.
