Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Medicaid covers qualifying inpatient mental health treatment

Colorado requires Medicaid to pay qualifying mental health institutions for inpatient mental health treatment provided to Medicaid members. Payment covers up to 60 days, subject to federal law limits.

Mental health holds: checks and release limits

Evaluations must check whether patients still meet emergency mental health hold criteria and need more care in a designated facility. Facilities can discharge patients only when they no longer meet hold criteria, consistent with federal emergency-care law. A facility that cannot provide appropriate medical care may transfer the patient instead. The receiving facility must be designated by Colorado's Behavioral Health Administration to provide this care.
