Colorado irrigation districts can pay board members up to $150 per day for attending meetings. Election judges also have a $150 daily pay limit, paid by the district. The law also provides reimbursement for actual and necessary official expenses; board pay is not guaranteed. Beginning July 1, 2029, pay limits increase every five years, rounded to the nearest dollar. Adjustments use the annual percentage change in the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood consumer price index for urban consumers, or its successor.
Colorado irrigation district contracts over $400,000 through $650,000 require written approval from at least one-third of the district’s legal voters. The required number is based on votes cast at the last district election. Contracts over $650,000 require voter approval at an election held under bond-issuance rules. Beginning July 1, 2029, these limits increase every five years, rounded to the nearest dollar. Adjustments use the annual percentage change in the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood consumer price index for urban consumers, or its successor.
