Colorado can protect preventive care coverage

Colorado requires covered policies to follow specified preventive-care standards, including federal A or B recommendations, vaccine recommendations, and comprehensive guidelines. If those standards change, are repealed, or end, the insurance commissioner can require January 2025 standards or qualifying state task force recommendations. The commissioner can also require additional preventive services recommended by the groups or guidelines named in the law. The state Nurse-Physician Advisory Task Force must prioritize preventive-care updates and recommend changes. It must consult relevant national clinical societies where they exist and include input from experts, patient groups, and commercial insurers. The law grants rulemaking authority; it does not itself adopt replacement standards or add specific covered services.

Coverage exception for health savings plans

Health savings account–eligible insurance policies have a limited exception from Colorado's preventive-care coverage requirements and related rules. The exception applies only as needed to keep the policy eligible under federal health savings account law. This can narrow required coverage, but the law does not identify specific services or costs that change.
