Colorado ends school mental health screening program

The law ends Colorado’s school mental health screening program for grades 6–12, removing this screening option for families. For state budget year 2025–26, it cuts about $2.54 million in Department of Human Services funding for the program. It also cuts $260,978 and 3 full-time staff positions from Behavioral Health Administration program administration. Related cuts include $37,260 for health, life, and dental benefits; $146 for short-term disability; $936 for paid family medical leave insurance; and $20,798 for unfunded liability payments. The law also removes the exemption from mental health professional rules for screeners working under the ended program.
