Counties pay more toward prosecutor salaries

Beginning July 1, 2026, Colorado pays 25% of each assistant district attorney’s minimum required annual salary, down from 50%. Counties in every judicial district pay the remaining 75%, divided among them using the existing formula. The state pays its share in 12 equal monthly payments. The law keeps the existing minimum salary calculation and sets no household tax amount. The act generally takes effect at 12:01 a.m. the day after the 90th day following the legislature’s final adjournment. A timely referendum petition blocks that effective date unless voters approve the law at the November 2026 general election. In that case, the act takes effect when the governor officially declares the vote.
