Nonprofits shielded when giving free gun safety devices

The law gives civil immunity to nonprofits that give new secure gun storage or safety devices away for free. The device must be new, in its original unopened package, and given to an individual with a gun safety pamphlet from a local or national safety group or a hospital. The shield covers injuries caused by a defect in the device. It does not limit lawsuits against the device’s manufacturer, distributor, or retailer. The law defines secure gun storage or safety devices to match federal law, including cable locks, trigger locks, and gun safes.
