Legal protection for nonprofits giving gun-safety devices

Delaware law shields nonprofits from civil damages for personal injury or property damage caused by alleged gun-safety device defects. This covers alleged defects in design, manufacture, maintenance, or operation. Covered devices include cable locks, trigger locks, and gun safes. Nonprofits must give new devices free to individuals, in original unopened packaging, with a gun-safety pamphlet. The pamphlet must come from a local or national gun-safety organization or hospital. The law does not limit manufacturers’, distributors’, or retailers’ liability.
