Stronger suicide protections for life insurance beneficiaries

The law takes effect 6 months after enactment and applies to Delaware life insurance policies issued on or after that date. It cuts the allowed suicide exclusion period from 2 years to 1 year after the policy’s issue date. This limit applies regardless of the insured person’s mental state. If an insurer denies a death benefit under this first-year suicide exclusion, it must refund all premiums paid for the coverage tied to that benefit.
