Beginning 1 year after enactment, facilities must post breastfeeding program information wherever medical care is provided. Staff who work with pregnant or lactating inmates must be told the policies.
Beginning 1 year after enactment, the Department of Correction runs a breastfeeding and lactation program for pregnant, postpartum, and lactating women in custody. The Department sets the rules with a contracted breastfeeding organization. The program provides manual or electric pumps and storage bags, sanitizes the equipment, gives a comfortable place to pump, and offers safe same-day milk storage. An approved person you select, and the facility approves, can pick up and deliver milk to your infant or toddler. The program gives prenatal vitamins, nutrition information and a meal plan based on national best practices, and medical help when you wean or stop lactating. To participate, you must be in compliance with the Department’s drug-testing policies.
