AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 29 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE OFFICE OF GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND COMMUNITY SAFETY.

Delaware establishes gun violence prevention office

The law establishes the Office of Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety within Delaware’s Department of Safety and Homeland Security. It puts into law the office established by Executive Order No. 9, issued May 1, 2025. The Secretary names a Department employee as Director to coordinate state efforts and connect state, county, and local governments with community groups. The Director promotes cooperation among agencies and reports recurring gun violence problems to the Secretary. The Office advises and assists the Governor and Secretary on prevention, intervention, and coordination. State departments, agencies, interagency councils, and committees with related work must fully cooperate and help the Office. The Office can also help departments and agencies when they request assistance. The Governor may assign Governor’s Office staff to support the Office and manage community outreach.
