After a medical suspension or cancellation, Delaware drivers can surrender their license or sign the Department's required form. The form confirms they cannot drive; keeping the card allows identification use, not driving. The usual $50 license-return or driving-privilege reinstatement fee does not apply to physical, vision, or mental disqualifications. When the suspension or cancellation period ends, driving privileges must be restored for a retained license that has not expired. No reinstatement fee applies to that restoration. The Department can also set alternative surrender methods for licenses and identification cards.
Delaware drivers and applicants undergoing medical review can have their licenses canceled, not just suspended. Medical board members and vision consultants give independent recommendations, without needing group agreement. Options include no action, regular medical or vision checks, license limits, further evaluation, driver-improvement activities, suspension, or cancellation. The Secretary makes the final decision to grant, deny, restrict, suspend, or cancel a license.
