Stricter rules for treating protected wildlife

People need written permission from Delaware’s Fish and Wildlife Director to give drugs to protected wildlife, unless a permit or Department rule allows it. Drugs include chemicals other than food that affect an animal’s body or biological functions, not just fertility-control drugs. Licensed veterinarians and Department-permitted wildlife rehabilitators can still treat sick or injured wild animals. The restriction does not limit official public-health, wildlife-management, or wildlife-removal work by the Department, federal authorities, or Department-authorized nuisance wildlife operators. Each violation is a Class B environmental misdemeanor.
