New massage technician certifications end

Beginning January 1, 2025, Delaware’s Board of Massage and Bodywork cannot issue first-time certified massage technician credentials. This closes the technician certification route for new applicants. Existing certified technicians can keep their credentials by meeting the renewal requirements in Title 24, Section 5312(a) through (d).

More study hours, flexible classes for therapists

Delaware therapist applicants who began massage programs on or after July 1, 2024, need 625 education hours, up from 500. They can use Board-approved hybrid education, which combines in-person classes and distance learning. The Board controls which subjects and how many hours qualify for distance learning. The 625 hours include 100 in anatomy and physiology, 300 in techniques and theory, and 200 in elective massage courses. The remaining 25 cover ethics, law, and conditions that make massage unsafe. Applicants who began before July 1, 2024, keep the 500-hour supervised classroom path: 100 anatomy and physiology, 300 techniques and theory, 75 electives, and 25 ethics, law, and conditions that make massage unsafe.
