Effective date and notice to districts

The law takes effect 30 days after enactment. The Department of Education must tell each school board president and each district superintendent about the new rules and the exact start date.

Remote attendance rules for school boards

If a board allows remote attendance, members may attend remotely only for certain reasons: your illness; a family member’s illness needing your care; a public health emergency; pregnancy or care right after birth for you or your spouse or partner; or your military deployment. Boards may limit how many times a member uses remote attendance and cannot add new reasons. A member who attends remotely for an allowed reason counts for quorum and voting. The technology used must let all members and witnesses hear each other at the same time.
