90 days of physical therapy without referral

You can see a licensed physical therapist without a doctor’s referral for up to 90 days. After 90 days, a physician must be consulted. If your symptoms are outside a physical therapist’s scope, a referral is required sooner.

Physical therapy and athletic trainer renewal rules

Physical therapists and athletic trainers must renew licenses every two years. You must pay the renewal fee and attest that you completed Board-required continuing education. If you miss renewal, the Board sets a late-renewal window, up to one year, to fix it. A license can be inactive for up to five years. To return to practice, you must request reactivation, pay a Division-set fee, and show required continuing education. Knowingly lying on an application is perjury.
