Health workforce planning with protected license data

Delaware’s health agencies can request licensing data from the state’s licensing office to plan the health workforce. The named licensing boards must provide data that the licensing office already collects and stores. Agencies may use the data only for official planning work, like counting licensed providers and tracking federal shortage areas. They may share the data with contractors only for these same purposes. Individual records are confidential. Datasets exclude home addresses and personal financial information.

Workforce questions added to license renewals

The health department’s provider resources office works with the Health Care Commission and the licensing office to decide which workforce data to collect. The licensing office must ask for those data when people apply for or renew a health care license. This builds a single, standard set of facts on the health workforce to guide planning and policy.
