Higher degree standards for Delaware nutrition professionals

Delaware requires dietitian/nutritionist license applicants who graduated on or after January 1, 2024, to hold at least a master’s degree. For those who graduated earlier, a bachelor’s degree remains the minimum. U.S. degrees must come from regionally accredited colleges or universities. Foreign degrees need validation as equivalent to a U.S. master’s degree, or a bachelor’s or master’s degree for earlier graduates. Applicants must study human nutrition, nutrition education, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management. All applicants must document at least 900 hours of supervised practice in dietetics/nutrition. Supervisors must be registered dietitians, licensed healthcare practitioners, or holders of doctorates from U.S. regionally accredited colleges or universities. Supervisors with foreign doctorates need their degrees validated. Applicants must appear for examination at the Board’s designated time and place, and the law removes the alternate-qualification waiver.
