Tenure option for New Castle legal staff
New Castle County Council can establish tenure by ordinance for Assistant County Attorneys and other County Attorney-appointed legal professionals. Tenure is not automatic. Until staff gain tenure under an ordinance, the County Attorney can dismiss them at their discretion. The County Attorney appoints Assistant County Attorneys as authorized by the County Council. First Assistant County Attorneys must be selected under the county’s merit system rules.
